Annie Proulx Goes Off

Annie Proulx (since when did she drop the E.?) has written a devastating response to Brokeback Mountain's loss of the Best Picture award at this year's Oscars. Although she does, at times, come off a bit unhinged, she also lets fly some scathing commentary like this line, which predicts the future of Academy voting post Crash (or, as she calls it, "Trash"):

"Next year we can look to the awards for controversial themes on the punishment of adulterers with a branding iron in the shape of the letter A, runaway slaves, and the debate over free silver."

Wow. So I guess it's not just an honor for her to be nominated, then.
